On jaw lift, I stopped fighting it once I started to “bore the soft jaws at the same torque and stick-out as the real part” — I clamp a ring or 1–2-3 block to preload, bore, then use that exact torque on the job; if you can’t bore, a light mallet seat before final torque is the next best thing.

Before you apply, ask ‘who owns the post and who verifies tool lengths?’ — if they can’t answer, expect late nights. Did a couple remote prove-outs last year; what saved me was treating it like lights-out. I leaned on machine sim, then baked in M00 checkpoints with a checklist for the onsite lead and a note like “M00 — snap a pic of the first chip,” plus forced G53 Z retracts before any tool change. Caveat: if there’s no probing and a decent camera angle, you’re watching a crash in slow motion, so keep remote to posting/verification only.

For remote runs, @nora39, my safety net is a little ‘probe bouncer’: the program taps a 10 mm gauge pin at G54 and hard-alarms if the hit is off >0.02 mm, then we proceed only if the live cycle time matches my posted backplot within about 5%. Caveat: without a clear coolant-cam I won’t allow full-width roughing — cap stepdowns and leave stock for a quick M01 eyeball pass.
