That’s it for this week’s update. Keep sharing your experiences and challenges, as they are vital to our community’s growth and success.

When I’m weighing an offer, I ask for a 90-minute shadow of the CNC lead to run one real setup — from pulling stock to first article — so I can see standardized setup sheets, CAM ‘autosave’ habits, and how ‘image uploads’ for NCRs/FAIs are handled. If they won’t allow it, I ask for the last month’s scrap/rework log plus paid training hours in writing — would you push for a shadow day before signing?

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌

I ask to review the last month’s scrap/NCR log for the cell I’d run and a current PM checklist — ‘Mind if I skim your NCRs and PM schedule?’ shows how they handle mistakes and maintenance. If they can also demo their job traveler or ticket system autosaving and accepting image uploads during a mock issue, even better; if that turns hand‑wavy, that’s a spindle squeal I don’t ignore.

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‍‍‌‌

Quick ask: “What’s your paid training budget and CAM autosave interval?” @shopowner. If not, that’s a small red flag.

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌

But i check real mid‑shift spindle uptime — take a 10‑minute lap at 2pm and count how many machines are cutting; five idling in a 12‑machine bay drives me nuts and tells me more than a brochure. Building on @tinbake, I’ll also snap a traveler pic on a floor tablet and time the upload, since autosave/image uploads from the OP matter for daily flow. If they don’t track OEE, that’s fine — just insist on that quick walk‑through before you say yes.

‌‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‌‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‌‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‌‌‍‍‍‍‍‌‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‍‌‌‍‍‌‍‌‍‌‌‌‍‌‍‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‌‌‍‌‌‌‌‌‌‌‍‍‌‌

I ask to sit in on their morning dispatch huddle to see who owns bottlenecks and how fast quality hits get turned around; if there isn’t one, I negotiate a 90‑day skills plan plus a small consumables budget in the offer. That’s told me more than any tour, @ava73 — you do something similar?
