I’ve been experimenting with different materials for die making, and it seems like steel and aluminum both have their merits, but I’m curious what others have found. For instance, I recently machined a mold from A2 tool steel that produced a fantastic finish; the proper heat treatment made a significant difference. What have you found to be the best for achieving a smooth surface without excessive finishing?
