Adjusting feed rates for better finish

I’ve been experimenting with feed rates on my Haas VF-2, trying to balance between speed and surface finish on aluminum parts. It seems like even a small adjustment can lead to noticeable differences. Has anyone else found a sweet spot for feed rates that consistently delivers a great finish without sacrificing too much production time?

Finding that sweet spot can feel like chasing a mirage sometimes. I’ve had good luck starting around 80 inches per minute for aluminum but fine-tuning it based on your tooling’s specs can really help. Have you tried any specific speeds that made a difference yet?

It’s definitely a balancing act! I usually find that going a bit slower with a feed rate around 60 IPM helps avoid chatter and gives a nice finish, but make sure to keep an eye on your tooling. Have you tried varying the depth of cut as well?

I’ve definitely seen some wild changes with just a 10 IPM adjustment.
